Contents of this product 1 x Vaccinium corymbosum 'Chandler' Pot size: 2 liters Height at delivery: approx. 60cm including pot (indicative) Plants are natural products. Height, branching, and amount of foliage may vary by specimen and season. Flowering or fruiting upon delivery is not guaranteed. Flowering, harvest and growth The small white flowers appear in late spring. The berries typically ripen from late July or August into September, depending on location and weather. Pick them when they are completely blue and detach easily. Not every berry reaches the same size; moisture, pollination, and the load on the bush play a role. A mature plant grows to about 150 cm tall and can reach a similar width. Acidic soil and location Blueberries require acidic, humus-rich soil. Choose sun or light partial shade and keep the soil evenly moist. If the garden soil is calcareous or heavy, a spacious pot with potting soil for acid-loving plants is often simpler than just adjusting the planting hole. Excess water must be able to drain away properly. Water and nutrition The roots lie quite shallow and must not dry out for extended periods. Preferably use rainwater and check potted plants regularly during warm periods. Use a suitable fertilizer for acid-loving plants according to the packaging instructions. A layer of organic mulch material helps keep the soil moist; avoid accumulation against the base of the trunk. Pollination and pruning A blueberry bush can set fruit on its own. Another variety with overlapping flowering can improve fruit set. Prune young bushes sparingly. In winter, remove dead, weak, or crossing wood, and on older bushes, gradually remove a few old branches. Retain strong young shoots for rejuvenation. Winter care The shrub is hardy and deciduous. Warm autumn color is followed by winter dormancy. When grown in a pot, protect the root ball against prolonged severe frost. On frost-free days, water as needed to prevent the root ball from drying out completely. Use of the berries The large fruits are delicious to eat straight, with yogurt, or in baked goods. You can also freeze part of the harvest. Pick regularly and, if necessary, protect ripening berries with carefully stretched bird netting, without loose loops in which animals could become entangled.
